The Metuchen, NJ Chapter of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians

The National Association of Pastoral Musicians fosters the art of musical liturgy. The members of NPM serve the Catholic Church in the United States as musicians, clergy, liturgists, and other leaders of prayer. NPM is an organization for anyone who recognizes and supports the value of musical liturgy. It is comprised of musicians, clergy, and liturgists with every level of experience. The Metuchen Chapter of NPM hosts numerous events throughout the year, assisting local church musicians to grow in faith and skills. The Chapter was named Chapter of the Year in 2016.

In this master class, Ms. Sforza will discuss how to integrate a solid vocal technique into one’s daily singing routine and performance. She will work with the group on breathing, proper body positioning, tonal placement, vocal sensation, and muscle memory.

To further illustrate these skills, the group will focus on a familiar psalm and song (see below). Singers will have a chance to touch upon their own voices and artistry as Ms. Sforza will work on an individual basis as well. If time allows, there will be a discussion on how singers can bring a stronger sense of Catholic spirituality and sensibility into liturgical music through their voice.

Participants may sign up in advance of the workshop to sing for Ms. Sforza and the group, volunteer on the day of, or simply observe.

Our Lady of Lourdes Church houses the 1998 18-rank Randall Dyer pipe organ and a fully rebuilt 1918 Steinway grand piano.
