Why did I want to be a part of this Choral Festival?
Many of my peak musical experiences have been as a member of a choir. High School Choir Concerts, touring Europe with an auditioned State Jazz Choir, Westminster Choir College performances in New York City, traveling through South Africa with an international choir singing traditional South African music, and the many festivals, conferences and conventions where people gather to sing have all lifted my spirits and given me the impetus to achieve something greater. These were all monumental experiences that evoked powerful memories, and have given me an interest in helping to create those feelings for others.
We know that music making releases feel-good chemicals in the brain like dopamine and serotonin. Meeting other people who enjoy participating in a parish choir is always enlightening and affirming. Experiencing different harmonies in a different setting with people you have not sung with presents a challenge that is both beautiful and rewarding. Moreover, this opportunity is close to home and doesn’t require long travel or overnight lodging.
What better time than the summer to feed your soul, meet new people and sing your heart out. I can’t think of a more enjoyable way to sing a new song to the Lord!
